HOUSTON -- Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that shut down a portion of the East Loop Freeway Friday morning.
Police said a speeding driver smashed into the rubber barricade separating the freeway and the Lawndale exit ramp around 1:20 a.m.
The impact was so great, it sent the driver through the front windshield and onto the ground.
The driver died at the scene.
All northbound lanes of the freeway were closed until shortly after 4 a.m.
