Driver trapped after power lines fall onto west Houston roadway

HOUSTON -- A power pole snapped, dropping live wires onto a west Houston roadway late Thursday.

Police said it happened around 10:15 p.m. along Voss at Woodway.

Crews said it appeared the poll was rotten at the ground, causing it to snap. A driver didn't see the wires in the road and drove into the mess.

Rescuers asked the driver to stay put until the power could be turned off, and no injuries were reported.

About 1,000 CenterPoint customers were without power.

Voss was blocked in both directions for more than two hours while crews worked to make repairs.
