Driver suffers burns after car bursts into flames along Highway 290

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A driver was hospitalized after being burned during a car fire along Highway 290 in northwest Harris County overnight.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Highway 6 exit ramp.

At that time, a man in a Nissan Altima was heading west on Highway 290 when the car caught fire. The driver stopped, while the Cy-Fair Fire Department responded.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out, but the man had first- and second-degree burns on his hands and arms. 

Deputies said the driver apparently was trying to get stuff out of the car during the fire. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
