Driver critically injured in crash with HISD school bus

WALKER COUNTY, TEXAS - One person was critically injured in a crash involving an HISD school bus Wednesday afternoon in Walker County.

New Waverly Volunteer Fire Department officials say the bus was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-45 near Park Road 40 just south of Huntsville when it was hit in the back by a car. Authorities say the driver of the car was pinned behind the wheel for several minutes but was quickly rescued by firefighters.

That driver was treated on scene by Walker County EMS before he was transported to the hospital by Life Flight. He remains in critical condition at this time.

Officials say no students were on the bus at the time of the accident, and no one else was injured.
