2 sought in drive-by shooting of ex-cop

HOUSTON -- Police are searching two men who they said may have information about the Monday drive-by shooting of a retired Houston police officer.

Andrew Garcia, 20, left, and Bruno Aviles, 17, are wanted to questioning in the case of an ex-HPD cop who was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting on Monday.
Police also released photos of Bruno Aviles, 17, and Andrew Garcia, 20. They are wanted for questioning in the shooting of 77-year-old Velia "Belle" Ortega.
Ortega was critically wounded after being struck repeatedly by a torrent of bullets shot from a high-powered rifle through an apartment door.
Ortega was visiting relatives at the Plum Creek Apartments in the 6900 block of South Loop East when the shooting happened at about 1:20 p.m. on Monday.
Ortega was the first Hispanic woman hired as a Houston police officer. She had a 42-year career with HPD before retiring in 1999.
She remains in critical condition at Ben Taub Hospital.
