Couple stabbed in home invasion

05:55 PM CDT on Thursday, July 3, 2008

HOUSTON --A husband and wife were stabbed during a home invasion in northwest Harris County on Thursday morning.

The wife didn't survive.

The sheriff's office said it happened just before 6 a.m. in the 16300 block of Leamington as their elementary-aged children were sleeping.

Damion Faulkner told investigators they heard glass breaking and next thing he knew, he and his wife had been stabbed.

Dorothy Faulkner was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, but doctors couldn't save her.

Damion Faulkner is being treated for a minor stab wound and is expected to be released from the hospital soon.

Their children slept through the attack and were not hurt.

“From the interviews with the children, they didn’t have any knowledge so I assume they were sleeping,” said

Harris County Sgt. Ross Nelson.

Faulkner described the intruder as about 6'0 tall with a medium build, a short spiked haircut and possibly a beard.

Neighbors like Carolyn Cadena are shocked. “It could have been my house. It could have been anyone’s house. At least the kids weren’t hurt. Whoever it was got out before the kids woke up.”

Jennifer Daniels knows the family.

She says they are fun and friendly. “It is something that just doesn’t happen out here. As a parent, your immediate concern is this is a random thing.”

The motive for the attack isn't known, but investigators said nothing was taken from the home.
