ICE raids net 149 arrests of criminal illegal immigrants

HOUSTON -- A multi-county immigration raid netted dozens of arrests this past week. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency said 149 illegals – most with criminal records – were arrested.
Officials said 67 of those taken into custody are members of violent gangs. In Houston, 71 were people arrested, including 33 gang members or associates.
There were arrests also in Conroe, Galveston, Sugar Land, Bryan, Richmond, Beaumont and Corpus Christi.
Of the 67 gang members and associates placed in custody, 20 were arrested on outstanding state arrest warrants and turned over to local authorities; one was arrested on an outstanding federal drug arrest warrant. The other 46 arrested were in the United States illegally, of which 28 are facing federal criminal charges for illegal entry or illegal re-entry after deportation.
