It may look like just the same old story, another teacher accused of having sex with a students, but in the Heights, the news still comes as a shock.
“I am going to make sure that if I see him I am going to give him the evil eye,” said Bernadette McLeroy who lives in the area. “I am going to go door-to-door tonight (to) let everyone know.”
McLeroy wants people to know that Christopher Evans had sex with a female student.
Police say it happened in his home in May of last year while his wife was pregnant and confined to her bed.
“She was in one room. He had the girl in another room. She did not know this going on,” said J.T. Roscoe with HPD’s Juvenile Sex Crimes Unit.
Evans was a teacher at New Heights Christian Academy.
Officer Roscoe says he had reputation for constantly hugging and touching girls in his class. “Christopher Evans like to do things like hug on the girls spank the girls on the butt, joke and play, have girls sit on his lap.”
The 26-year-old is charged with two counts of sexual assault with a child and one count of child indecency.
He is free on bond.
Evans brother and father say Christopher Evans is innocent of all charges.
But police suspect otherwise and they believe Evans may have assaulted others.
“At this time we know of one victim. We understand this kind of behavior going on in the class and in the school. There could be others out there,” said Roscoe.
Others, police say, who may have been victims of a former teacher who is now accused of crossing a line.
