Raw video from southeast Houston robbery
Two people died in separate incidents at Houston convenience stores.
Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a store clerk was found shot to death at Bellfort and Ledbetter in southeast Houston. Two customers had found the man and called 911.
Houston police said the counter had been ransacked, and the cash register was open with the money gone. There were no apparent witnesses, but police are checking to see if a surveillance camera recorded anything.
Then just before 3 a.m., two men went into Tony's Express convenience store at Ashford Place at Synott.
Police said the clerk, 38-year-old Doo Byung Park, opened the register, and then one of the men reached in and grabbed at cash. When the men tried to run outside, Park shot at them multiple times, hitting them both.
Police said Park shot one of the suspects in self-defense, since it was believed he had a handgun.
The suspects tried to flee in their vehicle, but they crashed. The driver died at the scene, and the other suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in serious condition.
Detectives are reviewing security video of the incident.
