CRIME

Man dressed as security guard robs Shenandoah bank

04:29 PM CDT on Monday, April 17, 2006

From 11 News Staff Reports

A man dressed in a dark navy security officer uniform robbed a Wachovia Bank in Shenandoah Monday morning, getting away with about $1,800.

A bank official noticed the suspect stopping to put on gloves before entering the building and notified the staff to prepare for a possible robbery. The silent alarm was also triggered.

He approached a teller and presented a withdraw request for $30,000.00 in “big bills only” to be paid to Mr. Rober (sic). The suspect was asked repeatedly by another bank employee to remove his hat and glasses per Wachovia policy. The suspect never acknowledged the employee, nor did he speak as the teller handed him the money.

The suspect calmly exited the bank and fled on foot across a lightly wooded area between the bank and an adjoining shopping center.

It is possible that the male suspect drove away in a small white passenger car, of an undetermined make, with front end damage.

He is described as a white male 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 200 to 220 lbs.

He was wearing tinted glasses and a black baseball cap with “It’s A Run Down” across the front in orange lettering. He also wore a security-type duty belt, with a holster containing a silver colored pistol, a police style baton, and a handcuff case.

The bank is located in the 1400 block of Research Forest Drive in Shenandoah, TX.

The Shenandoah Police Department is investigating this case with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
