Jury selection continues in plastic surgeon's trial

12:20 PM CST on Tuesday, March 28, 2006

From 11 News Staff Reports

Jury selection in the trial for a Houston plastic surgeon accused of running over two women near the Galleria continues Tuesday.

Dr. Mark Gilliland is accused of running over two British citizens while allegedly driving drunk.

Both women are back in Houston for the trial and are expected to testify.

Police released video of Gilliland taking a field sobriety test that night last year.

Prosecutors said his blood alcohol level was .13. The legal limit is .08.

The defense, however, is expected to argue that the sleep medication Ambien was to blame.

His lawyers said he was taking the medication, which studies have shown may cause some people to walk, eat and even paint in their sleep without remembering it the next day.
