Railroad Killer returns to Houston

One of the nation's most famous serial killers who was convcited in Houston has now returned to the Bayou City. File Photo Angel Maturino Resendez 11 News learned that Angel Maturino Resendez, who was known as The Railroad Killer, was brought to Houston and is awaiting a Friday hearing where his execution date will be set. In July of 1999, a Texas Ranger helped negotiate Resendez's surrender on the Texas-Mexico border. The arrest followed months of terror and murder as he hopped freight trains from one place to another. Resendez is being put to death for murdering Dr. Claudia Benton in West University and is suspected in the killings of five other people in Texas and six in other states. For nearly two years, Resendez avoided arrest by using freight trains to escape before authorities could arrive. He was an illegal immigrant who crossed the border to commit crimes in Texas and possibly as far as Kentucky and Illinois.
