Man missing from correctional facility
11:11 AM CST on Sunday, November 13, 2005
A man missing from a county correctional facility has been charged with
an unauthorized absence.
Officials at the Harris County Correctional Treatment in Atascocita
confirmed that Santiago Gonzalez was at the facility as a part of his
probation on an assault case, and he has been missing for more than a
week.
The woman who Gonzalez assaulted was his ex-girlfriend.
On Nov. 3, an employee doing a bed check realized he was missing.
According to a probable cause warrant, Gonzalez was charged with the
felony of unauthorized absence from a community correctional facility.
KHOU-TV Santiago Gonzalez was in the facility as a part of his probation on an assault case.
A man who identified himself as a shift supervisor at the facility said
he did not know anything about Gonzalez, and everybody was accounted for.
The division’s explanation is that since Gonzalez will go to the Harris
County Jail if and when he is caught, he is not technically missing from
the facility – even though it is where he is supposed to be.
A Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said they are aware of
Gonzalez’s absence, but there is no active search for him. Authorities
said they do not believe Gonzalez is as dangerous as a person who
escapes from jail or prison.
