Break in the HPD cop killer case?
04:39 PM CST on Wednesday, November 2, 2005
A second person of interest in connection with murder of an off-duty
Houston police officer is now in police custody.
HPD Officer Reuben De Leon joined HPD in 1999.
The most recent arrest took Houston police all the way up to Wichita
Falls in North Texas.
A 27-year-old man appeared before Justice of the Peace Mike Little in
Wichita Falls shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday on a felony capital murder
warrant out of Harris County.
Little told 11 News the warrant is in connection with the shooting death
of Houston Police Officer Reuben De Leon.
Houston police went to Wichita Falls to bring the suspect back to
Houston.
There is also a 19-year-old man who turned himself in to Beaumont
authorities on Monday.
He is now being questioned in Houston. Police wouldn't say why he was
arrested -- only that he is a "person of interest" in the De Leon case.
De Leon was fatally shot last Wednesday at a security office in a
southwest Houston apartment complex.
Police said the suspect shot the off-duty officer multiple times after
he answered a knock at the door. Witnesses reported seeing two people
running from the scene.
