A Houston mother is on trial, accused of killing her boyfriend.
She originally blamed the death on her 9-year-old son.
Prosecutors began laying out their case Monday against Erika Ruiz. They
said in June 2004 she shot her live-in boyfriend during an argument, but
said her son did it after officers arrived. Police said claiming her son
was to blame was a desperate lie.
Investigators said they uncovered what really happened after
interviewing Ruiz' son at length and testing her hands for gunpower
residue.
Officers said they had previously responded to several domestic calls at
the home of Ruiz and 27-year-old Jose Martinez.
The boy who witnessed the shooting is expected to take the stand.
