Coyotes suspected in death of Galveston family's pet

GALVESTON, Texas — Police said coyotes are responsible for the death of a small dog on the island Wednesday morning, the third pet reported killed by the predatory animals in the last six months.

Ann Grasso, who lives in the 6500 block of Golf Crest Drive, said her husband let their "inside dog" out of the house early Wednesday morning.

When her husband went to check on Macy, a 19-pound Chihuahua mix that has been the family pet for about five years, he was unable to find her and left the house to search for the dog in his truck, Grasso said.

After returning home, he found signs that the dog had been killed, Grasso said.
