Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater near Colorado River

Authorities are searching for a missing boater after a vessel capsized near the mouth of the Colorado River on Saturday morning.

MATAGORDA COUNTY, Texas- The Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing boater near the mouth of the Colorado River on Monday afternoon.

"Suspending a search is one of the hardest decisions we ever have to make," said Capt. Tony Hahn, sector commander of Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi. "Our prayers are with the families of both boaters during this tragic and trying time."

According to the Coast Guard, someone reported "a 16-foot pleasure craft carrying four boaters without life jackets" capsized around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. They confirmed another boater died and two more were rescued in the incident. 

Texas EquuSearch identified the missing boater as 37-year-old Lester Fernandez. They said they would will be leading the search for him starting Monday morning. 

Officials say Fernandez was last seen wearing only his boxer shorts. He has a tattoo on his right hand and on his left foot.
