Cinco Ranch HS alum among survivors of UT stabbing

KHOU 11 News has learned Stuart Bayliss from the Katy area is one of three survivors of a stabbing attack Monday afternoon at UT Austin.

KATY, Texas -- A Cinco Ranch High School graduate is among those recovering from a knife attack at the University of Texas-Austin.

Stuart Bayliss, a sophomore engineering student and Naval ROTC member at UT, was a standout swimmer in high school. He is now wading through waves of well wishes on social media.

On Facebook, one friend wrote “Stuart is one of the bravest guys I know. I am so thrilled that he is able to be with us and recover.”

Fraternity brothers posted similar messages. One said Bayliss is “a fantastic person and a fantastic brother.”

All of them shared links to a GoFundMe page started by friends to help cover Bayliss’ medical costs.  

Bayliss needed over five hours of surgery for stab wounds to his back and right hand, according to the website. Doctors repaired seven severed tendons, two severed nerves and two severed blood vessels in his middle finger, the website said. 

He faces months of recovery.
