Some Brazoria towns stick by booze ban

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas—Not everyone in Brazoria County will be able to buy alcohol, according to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.
Residents of the county voted to overturn a decades-long alcohol ban last November, but Abbot on Thursday said that vote doesn’t apply to all residents.
He said the cities of Sweeny and Richwood have to stay dry, because their prohibition laws were approved by city voters.
Those laws can only be overturned by a citywide vote.
