10:54 AM CST on Wednesday, November 1, 2006

The accident happened at the FM 518 exit, where there is no feeder road. It was backed up for at least 4 miles.

The morning rush hour was slowed to a crawl by the pileup.
According to the Pearland Police Department, two people were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Police believe the accident may have been caused by a vehicle that slammed on its brakes, causing a chain reaction. The initial vehicle was not hit.
The accident is still under investigation.
There were a few alternate routes drivers could have used, according to 11 News traffic expert Darby Douglas.

There is no feeder road at that location.
"You can take Old Almeda School Road, County Road 46," Douglas said. "You can take Almeda Road, which is 521; those eventually merge, and that's gonna be west of 288."
You can also take Cullen Road or Mykawa northbound up to either FM 2234 or the Beltway.
"If you are coming from the area around Sienna Plantation and Highway 6, definitely use 521 as your alternate route," Douglas said. You can also use the Fort Bend Parkway.
