Increase in lost dogs at Harris Co. Animal Shelter

There has been an uptick in lost dogs at the Harris County Animal Shelter, and they need help finding their owners.

HOUSTON - There has been an uptick in lost dogs at the Harris County Animal Shelter, and they need help finding their owners.

A spokesperson for the shelter said many people often only check with BARC Animal Shelter on Carr Street when their pets go missing, and aren't aware of the county shelter.

"Only about 10 percent of the animals that enter the shelter have a tag or microchip, and only about 10 percent of the animals that come in are actually redeemed by their owners, now that's dogs," said the spokesperson.

The Harris County Animal Shelter is located on Canino Road and gets many of their strays from unincorporated parts of Houston.

A list of all the animals at the shelter is available here.
