Dog found neglected, abandoned in vacant home

The Houston Humane Society is seeking the public's help in identifying the suspect(s) who neglected and abandoned a dog in a vacant home.

HOUSTON - The Houston Humane Society is seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect(s) involved in the abandonment and neglect of a dog.

The organization received a report from a concerned citizen about an abandoned dog in a vacant home in the 200 block of Toranto Lane. An animal cruelty officer responded to the scene and found the abandoned dog resting on filthy laundry. The officer immediately took the dog to the Humane Society’s Animal Wellness Clinic.

“This is one of the most horrific cases of neglect I’ve seen in a long time,” said Monica Schmidt, spokesperson for the Houston Humane Society.  “It’s heartbreaking to see any animal hurt needlessly, and I cannot imagine how much pain and suffering she has endured already in her short life.”

Schmidt said the dog’s body is underweight, almost completely covered in mange and is suffering from several types of intestinal parasites.

Humane Society officials say the dog is about 6 months old and is classified as a chocolate lab mix.  The staff is calling her “Bella.”

Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Humane Society by calling (713)-433-6421, by email at or online.
