Dog dragged to death in South Carolina

The search is on for a woman in Calhoun county who dragged a dog to death

Calhoun County,  S.C.– Investigators in Calhoun County are looking for the person responsible for dragging and killing a dog with their car.

We spoke with the woman who reported that incident. She says she still can't believe what she saw Friday night on Kennerly Road.

“All the pads on its feet were scraped off, there was lacerations all over it, underneath its neck was scraped almost down to the bone,” Sturkie said. “On its paws was scraped almost down to the bone, it suffered.”

She says she saw a woman dragging a dog down the road in what appeared to be a dark colored Chevy Impala.

“My dogs are like my family, so I can’t imagine anybody doing this to a dog,” Sturkie explained sadly.

Sturkie said she took the dog from the woman, the woman drove off and then Sturkie called 9-1-1

“The animal was obviously dragged by a vehicle, um you can only imagine how it struggled to keep up with the vehicle, until it could no longer do so at which point it was literally dragged to its death,” Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said.

Summers says when his deputies arrived there was a long trail of blood of where it the dog had been dragged.

“I mean how could you possibly do it, to me would just show a sign of no conscious, uh just um I mean almost evil I mean it’s horrible. It was horrible,” Summers said.

Sturkie and Summers hopes whoever is responsible will come forward.

“Unbelievable that anybody can do something like that to an animal,” Sturkie said.
