HOUSTON – A gas line ruptured Monday morning in southeast Houston forcing firefighters to evacuate a neighborhood until the it could be turned off.

The flammable gas was spewing from the ground for several hours this morning near Griggs Road and Sidney Street. Firefighters evacuated four homes and shut down several nearby streets.

CenterPoint Energy crews were able to get the gas turned off around 10:30 this morning.

It’s not clear what caused the pipeline to break. CenterPoint Energy said no customers lost gas service due to the leak.
