HOUSTON -- Houston police took a man into custody after he was allegedly caught driving a car that was stolen earlier in the evening, officers said early Tuesday.

Around 12:45 a.m. an officer was called to Weaver near Homestead in northeast Houston. A woman told police her husband’s car was stolen earlier in the evening.

As officers were taking the report, the woman pointed to a car driving by and told police, “there it is!”

Officers chased the suspect a short distance before he lost control on Ley and crashed into a tree, a median, and then some bushes. The suspect then jumped out and ran away.

A K-9 officer and helicopter assisted in the search, and the suspect was later arrested.
