FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas -– State Troopers said a woman was sent to the hospital by Life Flight after being thrown from her SUV in a crash on Highway 59.

The crash happened near FM-762 around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers said the woman, 25, was driving a red Saturn SUV outbound on the freeway when she scraped the concrete barrier, overcompensated, and then rolled her vehicle. She was thrown from the crash and was then run over by her own vehicle after it was hit by an oncoming 18-wheeler.

She was sent to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

The incident shut down the freeway to outbound traffic for about an hour.

Investigators said the woman may have been texting when the incident occurred.
