HOUSTON -- A woman is charged with theft and abandoning a child after shoplifting at Wal-Mart.

Authorities say the incident occurred on November 29, 2012 at the store located at 2700 Kirkwood in Houston.

Police were called to Walmart after two loss prevention officers saw a woman leaving through a side door with merchandise that had not been paid for. The witnesses told police the stolen items were in a shopping cart being pushed by the suspect, Donnisha Sullivan. There was also a 4-year-old girl in the cart.

When Sullivan was confronted in the parking lot by the two witnesses, she ran away on foot, leaving the child in the cart.

One witness grabbed the cart to keep the child from being hit by a car.

The mother of the child, Charvia Peterson, was inside Walmart shopping with her cousin, Dorienda Montez while the shoplifting was taking place.

Peterson told a floor manager that she could not find her daughter. She told the manager her daughter was last seen with her cousin’s friend, Sullivan, and could not get in touch with her.

Peterson was eventually reunited with her daughter.

Sullivan was charged with a felony offense of endangering a child and theft -- for taking a $298 television from the store.
