HOUSTON – A woman died early Monday when her SUV struck a guardrail on Memorial Drive, Houston police said.
The Houston Police Department and the Houston Fire Department were called to the inbound lanes of Memorial near Shepherd shortly before 3 a.m.
Investigators said a woman driving an SUV left the roadway and hit the guardrail, crushing her vehicle. The SUV then caught on fire.
There was no early word on what may have caused the accident.
Police said the impact was so severe, debris was thrown more than two hundred feet.
It took crews several hours to clean up the wreckage, which blocked the eastbound lanes of Memorial Drive until around 6 a.m.
