HOUSTON – A woman was fatally struck by her own vehicle after it was hit by another vehicle Saturday in south Houston.
The 31-year-old woman and her passenger had stopped a blue Nissan Maxima along the shoulder of the 3300 block of Dixie Drive at about 2:30 a.m.
“The driver got out of the car to walk over into a parking lot, and as she did, she crossed in front of her parked car. The vehicle was struck from the rear by another driver, and the car rolled forward and pinned the driver, the pedestrian underneath the car,” Houston Police Officer C.B. Nickerson said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her passenger, who had exited the vehicle just moments before it was hit, was not injured.
“The vehicle did roll forward so there is also a chance, the vehicle probably was not placed in park, so it could have rolled from the edge of the roadway,” Nickerson said.
Nickerson said the driver of the other vehicle, a white Buick La Sabre, did not show any signs of intoxication.
The incident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
