HOUSTON — One woman had to be taken to the hospital Tuesday night after the car she was traveling in crashed into a light pole in southwest Houston, trapping her inside the vehicle.

According to HPD, a male driver and a female passenger were speeding in a Subaru northbound on Commerce Park near the Southwest Freeway around 10:15 p.m. when the driver lost control and crashed into a light pole and a tree. The crash also damaged a sprinkler system, causing water to spew into the air.

The man managed to get out of the car with a few bumps and bruises, but the woman, who sustained more serious injuries, was stuck. She had to be cut out by HFD Heavy Rescue and was transported to Southwest Memorial Hermann in serious, but stable condition.

Police said the driver was not intoxicated, but will be issued a citation for failure to control speed.
