THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A 52-year-old mother of two burned to death on the front porch of her home in The Woodlands while her children watched in horror.

It happened in the 2800 block of South Log Run Circle around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to The Woodlands Fire Department, a family had just finished having dinner when the mom went out to the front porch area, something she always does.

“After dinner she went out there,” said Arson Investigator Trey Baxter. “It was kinda her normal routine. She sits out there for two to three hours.”

Montgomery County investigators said the fire erupted on the front porch, where the woman was sitting alone on a metal chair. She somehow could not escape the flames.

The children smelled smoke and alerted their father, who went outside to check. That is when the saw the mother on fire. A neighbor also ran over to assist. She said the mother had been sick.

“She had been having some illness and had been taking some medication and they felt like she was outside smoking a cigarette and fell asleep,” the neighbor said.

The husband was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

But investigators don’t yet know what sparked the fire.
