HOUSTON – Two people were killed in a wreck early Sunday in northwest Houston. It happened at about 2:15 a.m. on State Highway 249 at Antoine.
Investigators said a woman driving a pickup truck northbound on Highway 249 ran the red light at Antoine and slammed into the side of a car traveling west bound on Antoine. There were two people in the car, a woman who was driving and a male passenger. Both died on impact.
There were two deputies at the same intersection, one actually saw the truck coming and stopped to avoid getting hit.
The woman driving the truck was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition. A blood draw revealed she had a blood count of 2.17, which means she was highly intoxicated, investigators said.
The woman was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
