Woman charged in wrong-way crash that killed motorcyclist on Katy Freeway

HOUSTON -– Charges have been filed against a woman who drove the wrong-way on the Katy Freeway and killed a biker Saturday evening, police said.

Ashley Tran, 40, is charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 8 p.m. in the 11600 block of the Katy Freeway just west of Beltway 8. Tran is accused of driving her Nissan Maxima eastbound on the Katy Freeway’s westbound mainlanes. She struck the victim, a 58-year-old man on a Goldwing motorcycle, head-on.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

Tran was sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. HPD said Tran was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody.
