HOUSTON—A woman is facing charges after police say she burned her two-year-old with a curling iron.
Latoya Hanks, 24, has been charged with injury to a child.
According to court documents, the child had burns to her cheek, bicep and left elbow when examined by a doctor on June 27, 2012.
The child’s paternal grandmother, Homezella Russel, reported the injuries to authorities on June 23, a day after Hanks is accused of burning the toddler.
Investigators say that Hanks denied burning the child in a police interview, claiming first that the child rolled over a curling iron on the floor and then that the child fell out of a box onto a clothes iron.
The injury to a child charge was filed on August 9.
