HOUSTON -– The 35-year-old woman accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal crash on the Gulf Freeway appeared in a Houston court overnight.

Blisha Marrie Puga is charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, court records state.

According to the Houston Police Department, the accident happened at 5:15 a.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near Broadway Street.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw Puga’s Saab swerve into another lane and crash into a Ford Taurus. A woman in the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Puga, a resident of Pasadena, admitted to drinking shortly before the crash. She was arrested and, as of Monday morning, was being held on a $30,000 bond.

The Houston Chronicle reported the freeway's northbound lanes remained closed near Hobby Airport for about six hours.
