HOUSTON—Police have one man in custody and are looking for two others they say are responsible causing major problems early Saturday morning in north Houston.

The incident started around 12:45 a.m. on the 900 block of Pecore.

According to police, three men in a car pulled up to a man walking his dog and demanded him to take them to his house. The suspects robbed the victim's house then went next door and robbed a neighbor.

Police said as the suspects attempted to leave the scene, their getaway car would not start. All three men took off running. One of the suspects ran a few blocks to a nearby restaurant and carjacked a patron who was in the parking lot. The patron then ran inside and reported the carjacking to an off-duty Harris County deputy who was working as security.

According to authorities, as the deputy came outside, the suspect attempted to run him over with the stolen vehicle. The deputy opened fire into the passenger side door, but did not hit the suspect.

Authorities said an HPD officer who was responding to the original robbery call spotted the suspect driving and began chasing him. The chase ended briefly after the suspect crashed. He attempted to run but was quickly caught.

Police said the other two suspects were never found.

The suspect who was caught faced several charges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, auto theft, attempted vehicular assault of a peace officer and evading arrest.
