WHARTON, Texas -- District officials said Wharton High School was placed under precautionary lockdown Monday afternoon after three plastic bottles were found on school grounds.
Wharton ISD said the three bottles were found outside and in the commons area around 12 p.m. That’s when the school was locked down.
Judy Barrett, spokesperson for Wharton ISD, said the district is unsure what was in the bottles, but their best guess is some type of cleaning company and pieces of foil.
Officials said the bottles were retrieved by a Wharton ISD police officer. They will be sent to a lab in Houston to be tested.
Wharton ISD said the school campus was searched during the lockdown, but nothing was found. The lockdown ended around 2:45 p.m. at the end of the school day
No one was arrested, but school officials know who made the bottles, according to Barrett. She said that is being dealt with at this time as a “disciplinary matter.”
Wharton is located about 62 miles southwest of downtown Houston.
