HOUSTON—It was a long time coming—a good 70 years—but a local World War II Veteran got his medals Wednesday.

Alvin Pulver, 89, got his six medals with help from Congressman Gene Green.

He was part of the Army troops led by General MacArthur that liberated the Philippines from Japan.

He later was part of the occupying force in Japan after the war ended.

All he could say is the medals bring back a lot of memories.
