HOUSTON—Equusearch has called off its search for a missing La Porte grandfather.

Thomas Bud Yates, 60, hasn’t been seen since January 31.

Yates was last seen at his home in the Fairmont Park East Subdivision. A cab driver took him home from a bar around midnight. When Yates went inside to get money, the cabbie said he never returned. After waiting awhile, the driver gave up and left.

Relatives didn’t realize he was missing until about a week later when his wife called from another state to ask if anyone had heard from him.

“We’re all very close. He’s never just disappeared and not talked to any of us,” said Dixie Weisbrod, Yates’ sister. “And when I first got word and tried to call him, he’s always answered my calls. And I knew it was bad.”

They called police to report him missing.

“It’s just, you can’t explain it. You wait,” said Kathy Rape, another sister. “You get on a mission to get information to help find him and you wait again.”

Relatives fear Yates was the victim of foul play. His four children, eight grandchildren and six siblings are worried sick.

“I want someone to be found responsible for whatever happened. I will search forever,” said Casie Yates, his daughter.

Yates was believed to be wearing blue jeans, a t-shirt and a baseball cap. Thomas also wears glasses.

Anyone with information should contact the La Porte Police Department at 281-471-2141.
