HOUSTON -- Major players in southern hip hop are moving to a place no record label has ever seen before: Rice University.

Bun B, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and their hip, slowed-down music make up Swishahouse, a Houston-based music label.

After more than 20 years, Swishahouse CD's and cassettes, Paul Wall’s platinum album, pictures and promotion materials are going into Rice University’s archives.

Professor Anthony Pinn says it's all this -- the look, the style and the sound -- that make Swishhouse a cultural icon worth studying.

Click on the video to learn more about the music and to see how these artists are making Rice a little more “hip."
