HOUSTON – The University of Houston Department of Public Safety will be testing its outdoor warning siren at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the siren may sound for up to two minutes and should be heard outside only – not in classrooms.

Students and employees are advised to continue their regular activities.

In the future, the siren may be activated by UHDPS in the event of an emergency that would make it unsafe to be outdoors, such as:

•    Severe weather conditions (Tornado warning or other dangerous conditions)
•    Major hazardous material incidents
•    An armed and hostile individual on campus
•    Other conditions that may require an emergency shelter in place action
