HOUSTON -- Word on the University of Houston campus spread quickly that former cougar football star Case Keenum would be Sunday's starting quarterback for the Houston Texans.

"Three were a couple of people that stormed into the cafeteria and they were like Keenum's starting," said UH student John Reuter. "Everyone was kind of shocked and first and then it sunk in."

In the shadow of the school's soon-to-be built football stadium, many people here remember Keenum not only for his undefeated season or record number of touchdowns but for his kindness.

"He's really nice, down to earth and humble," said UH student Amber Green. "We've been rooting for him."

And if you think folks at the University of Houston are proud, take a visit to Keenum's hometown of Abilene, Texas.

"He's always been a tireless worker and a dedicated player," remembers Keenum's coach from Wylie High School. "To see him now get an opportunity on the biggest stage, the NFL, we're very proud of him."

It wasn't very long ago that Keenum's father would drive around the state to watch his high school games, now he'll be making the 10 hour trip to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to see his son take on the Chiefs.

"There's a lot of little kid in him still and this is a little kid's dream," said Steve Keenum. "My biggest request for everybody -- pray hard for him at 3:30 on Sunday."
