HOUSTON—More traffic signals and deputy patrols are being added on a stretch of highway that has been the site of an alarming number of crashes, some deadly, according to TxDot.

TxDot said more than 100 crashes happened this year on FM 2100 between FM 1960 and Highway 90. That number has significantly increased over the past two years, according to a recent study.

Just two days ago, Texas blues guitarist "Mean" Gene Kelton was killed after he ran his Ford SUV into a school bus loaded with members of the Crosby High School girls basketball team.

Sixteen-year-old Nicole Vestal, a Crosby High School cheerleader, was killed when a truck hit the car she was riding in six months ago.

To prevent more wrecks, a traffic light will be added at the Stroker Road intersection, where Vestal was killed. It is scheduled to be installed by April.

A flashing caution light is scheduled to be installed next month at the Spanish Cove intersection. Precinct 3 deputy constables are also planning to step up patrols in the area as an added precaution.
