HOUSTON –TxDOT crews will be closing the I-45 southbound exit to McKinney into downtown Houston.
They decided to close the ramp Thursday morning as a result of a routine bridge inspection that revealed that the bridge had sustained significant impact from an unreported collision.
"We will always take the necessary steps to assure public safety and closing the bridge until further inspections and repairs can be made is the most prudent course of action," said Houston District Engineer Mike Alford.
According to TxDOT, the impact to the bridge is likely the result of the bridge structure being hit from below by an oversized trailer traveling on I-45 northbound sometime within the last year.
The ramp is expected to be closed for a month.
While the ramp is closed, motorists destined to downtown are encouraged to use either the Dallas/Pierce right-hand exit (#47D) or the Allen Parkway left-hand exit (#47A).
