HOUSTON – Two men who gunned down an Atascocita father because they wanted his BMW will spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Giovanni Mora and Bobby Jones were sentenced to life without parole for killing Donnie Frye last year. The getaway driver, Bruce Lee Taylor, got a 30-year sentence as part of a plea bargain.

Frye was shot to death in his driveway last April after running an errand less than a mile from his home in the 199000 block of Pine Wind. His wife and young daughter found his body.

Mora told police he had followed Frye home from a nearby Walgreens because he and his accomplices wanted his car, according to court documents.

One of them allegedly shot Frye because he didn’t turn over his keys quickly enough. Fingerprints on Frye’s car led investigators to Mora.

Mora was out on parole after a stint in prison for another robbery. He was released in December of 2010 after serving half of a two-year sentence. He also had a previous conviction on a drug charge.

Friends said Frye, 41, was a family man, an avid golfer and a vice president at DHL, a shipping company.

He left behind a wife and three children.

Friends and neighbors in the Pinehurst community helped raise money to add to the reward in his case.
