HOUSTON – High winds caused a tree almost 30 feet tall to fall on 17-year-old worker at a nursery in Spring.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Big Tex Tree Nursery located along Interstate 45.

Cypress Creek paramedics arrived at the Big Tex Tree Nursery first, then came the Spring Fire Department. They loaded the worker onto a gurney and he was taken by Life Flight to Herman Memorial Hospital.

Employees said the worker, who was on his first day on the job, was in pain and had back and neck injuries.

"Trees are in boxes and they can get a little top heavy.  The wind advisory signs are up,” said Mark McNeil, the store manager.

The worker is expected to fully recover.
