HOUSTON – A wrecker driver had a close call Wednesday when his truck got stuck on train tracks near Washington, west of downtown Houston.
The driver had one vehicle on his flatbed and was towing another when he tried to cross the tracks on Sherwin at Cornish.
The tow truck got hung up and wouldn’t budge.
When the driver realized a train was coming, he jumped out of his truck and away from the tracks.
The Union Pacific train slammed into the tow truck and ripped off the cab, dragging it about a mile down the tracks.
No one was hurt.
Both vehicles on the tow truck were damaged.
There is a sign warning trucks that the tracks can be tricky to cross, but it's not clear if the wrecker driver saw it.
The wreck happened in a silent zone, but the train did use its horns when it saw the truck on the track.
