HOUSTON — The state’s tax free weekend starts Friday and continues until midnight Sunday.
As in previous years, in general, clothing and shoes and most everything schoolchildren require will be sold tax-free, as long as the items cost less than $100.
The tax holiday results in a savings of $8 for every $100 spent. Socks are on the list, but so are pajamas.
“I mean it doesn’t make sense,” said shopper Shatara Payne.
There are many items that evoked that same reaction in shoppers at Houston Premium Outlets in Cypress. For instance, golf attire and Halloween masks are also on the tax-exempt list.
If you do not do your shopping at a brick and mortar store, things purchased online, over the phone, by mail or put in layaway are also exempt from taxes.
