HOUSTON -– Some smash-and-grab crooks left empty-handed after causing thousands of dollars in damage at a southwest Houston jewelry store.
The store’s owner tells KHOU 11 News it was around 5 a.m. Wednesday when his alarm company called and reported a break-in at his store, New Gehna Jewelers, in the 5900 block of Hillcroft.
No one was at the store when police arrived, however.
It appeared someone drove a pickup truck through the back office, smashing through furniture and walls in the process. All of the jewelry was locked in a safe, so the crooks left empty-handed before they were spotted.
Surveillance cameras may have captured the incident on video.
This isn’t the first crime at the store, according to the owner. He said it was about three months ago on a Sunday afternoon when he was robbed at gunpoint.
The family recently came to America from Pakistan to build the jewelry business, he said.
