AURORA, CO—In what was the largest vigol to date, thousands of people gathered on the green of Aurora City Hall Sunday to lift one another up at a time of enormous sorrow.

Many of them fought back tears as they listened to dignataries speak about the movie theatre massacre that altered so many lives.

"You just feel like it’s your family that’s passed on,” said Margaret Lanham, who lost a member of her church in the shooting.

Ramona Garcia brought her small grandson to the gathering. Garcia’s son was supposed to attend the showing of the Dark Knight but had a late change of plans.

“And so it could have been my son who was killed,” said Garcia.

Alex Havens was inside the theatre when the shots rang out. He can’t remember much of what happened now.

“I don’t see or hear anything,” said Havens. “All I feel is anger.”

The people who came felt many things. Organizers hoped the gathering would mark the beginning of the healing process.

Some folks in attendance said they were already looking forward.

“We all need to be together,” said Christine Lanham. “We all need each other now.”
